Tube Bending And Its Principles

Tube Bending And Its Principles

Tube bending is a metal forming process in which tubes and pipes are reshaped to form certain design and shapes. The Tube Bending Melbourne is mostly used in structural components like handrails and furniture frames etc. whereas pipes are used in oil and water industries. Tubes and pipes can be bent by processing through various kinds of methods, some modern machines and tools are also used for making the bending process more accurate and faster.

Tube Bending Process

Many metal fabrication methods and techniques are used for tube banding such as Roll bending, including draw, ram etc. all this process work on a common principle of bending the tube by applying force. Some different tools such as mandrels and wipers are also used. Some of the principles used for tub bending are discussed below.

Bending forces

In this principle, during bending process the wall of the tube at the point it is bent get changed in different combination of ways. As the bending process progresses the exterior wall of the tube stretches and become thinner and inner part become thicker. This process focuses banding process on applying forces to the tube to achieve a defined degree of bent. The tube with wider bent is likely to have less deformation problems.

Mandrels

When basic die set does not work in tube bending process mandrels are used. Mandrels are the devices that are inserted inside the pipe to provide it a support at the point where bending is to be done. The mandrels are inserted in the pipe only till the bending is performed. During manual bending, bending springs are used instead of mandrels.

Wiper dies

Wiper dies are only used when mandrels are not enough to prevent tube from wrinkling at the point of bending. The wiper dies wipes the wrinkles on the tube during bending process.

Elongation

Elongation here refers to the degree to which stretching of the tube can be done until it undergoes structural failure. Elongation is commonly used concept in tube and pipe bending in almost all procedures. The degree of stretching of tube depends on how tighter is the radius grows during elongation. Steel is said to be most suitable material for elongation as it has highest level of elongation. Steel tubes can be bent using procedures which involves elongation.

There are many other principles like compression bending, pressure bending, can also be used. Different tools like wiper dies, pressure dies, compression dies, and clamp die and bend die etc. can be used in bending procedures.

TUBE BINDING THROUGH MACHINES

Tube bending machines simplifies the bending process. These machines can be handled or floor mounted. The user need to hold the pipe from side and the Tube Bending machines bends the tube or pipe at its focal point .Tubing through this machine can be done in cylindrical, square or rectangular shape.

Tube bending can be done manually by using the above principle but it will require much equipment as well as efforts to do the job while some automated tools and machines do this easily and at faster rate. Tubes of different metal like steel aluminum, tin are used in can be bent using various methods and techniques etc.
